Blessed to parents from a reputed Sri Lankan malay family, a direct descendant of Amngkoerat I - Pangeran Arya Mataram and Pangeran Rengapthy Soerijah, Prince Jabaya Doella and Gate Muddaliyar of Magampatthuwa, Baba Arifin Doole (maternal great-great-grand father) was born in Hambantota on 17th August in 1959 with a long lineage representing the 6th generation of Malays migrating from Sutanate of Mataram, Malaya during the dutch invasion cerca 1796. Studied at Richmond College, St. Aloysius College, GALLE, Holy Cross College, KALUTARA and Roman Catholic (RCM) Mix School, HAMBANTOTA respectively. In respective schools, excelled in studies, adventure and sports. Represented school in Cricket, Basketball, Chess and Table Tennis. Enlisted to the Army in Apr 1980 as an Officer Cadet, On completion of Military Training at Officers Training School, Madras, India and Sri Lanka Military Academy, DIYATALAWA and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant/troop commander to the 1st Signal Regiment, Sri Lanka Signal Corps on 15th Dec 1980. Then he held the appointment as the Staff Officer Grade III in Infantry Training Centre, MINNERIYA.
As a Troop Commander he was deployed in Counter Terrorist Operations in North and EAST and participated in Operation Giant Step I, II and III to liberate North and South Eastern part of TRINCOMALLE, Sri Lanka during 1986 and subsequently awarded with a Gallantry Medal Rana Sura Padakkma for brave performances displayed in the face of the enemy. Suffice to mention the first heliborne operation conducted to attack the Sudaikudah LTTE Boat point in Trincomalee by landing on the beach in a Heli Gun Ship along with 02 more Heli troop Carriers under enemy gun fire. Thereafter, He was appointed as a Squadron Commander of the 1st Communications Squadron in PANAGODA and subsequently became the Staff Officer Grade II in Headquarters Signals Brigade at Army Headquarters. Took over the Command of 1st Signal Regiment in 1994 deployed in BATTICALOA to provide communications support for the Eastern Theatre and conducted many operations in the defensive role against LTTE terrorists in BATTICALOA and TRINCOMALLE. After Commanding the Regiment he was posted as the G-I Operations of Joint Operations Headquarters in COLOMBO to coordinate operational matters between all three services to combat terrorists North of Sri Lanka. As the Colonel General Staff of 55 Infantry Division (Offensive) was deployed in VAVUNIA during Operation Jaya Sikurui launched to capture A9 road leading to JAFFNA. Subsequently he was injured (Moderately Severe) in battle along with General Officer Commanding and his Deputy and decorated with Desha Putra Padakkama awarded for injuries suffered in battle. He also evacuated the injured GOC in person driving a vehicle to the nearest Main Dressing Station (MDS) located 8 Km south of the Tactical HQ located in Olumadu, East of Mankulam Junction.
Followed Senior Command Course at War College, MHOW, India. On successful completion of this course appointed as an Infantry Defensive Brigade Commander in WALIKAMAM EAST in JAFFNA. Actively involved in conducting defensive operations and performed bravely to withstand the onslaught of LTTE during the infamous JAFFNA debacle in year 2000 and bear witness to the ensuing calamity, confusion surrounded by uncertainty in command and control when jaws of defeat was imminent at the door step. Brigade held on to an extended defence line of 14 km that was established in 48 hours to save WALIKAMAM DIVISION, JAFFNA TOWN and PALALY. Under his direct command, three consecutive Human Borne IED attempts launched by LTTE to breech the PALALY defences through WALIKAMAM WEST and attempt made to attack and destroy SF Commander travelling in a vehicle convoy was thwarted by ground troops. In appreciation of the gallant action displayed in the face of the enemy he was recommended for Rana Wickrama Padakkama and eventually decorated with a Gallantry Medal Rana Sura Padakkama for the second time in his career as a gallant signaller. In year 2002, Became the Regimental Center Commandant of Sri Lanka Signal Corps based in PANAGODA in charge of the administration of 4000 Signalers. On successful completion of his tenure as the Center Commandant in year 2003, Appointed as the Commander 217 Infantry Brigade located in VAVUNIA responsible to coordinate all Military/Civic action programs and hold the defence line West of OMANTHAI during the ceasfire agreement signed by GOSL and LTTE. After a short stint as the Commander 217 Brigade in April 2004, selected to follow the Long Defence Management Course held at College of Defence Management, Secunderabad, INDIA In parallel to the Long Defence Management Course also secured the distinction of completing Masters in Management Studies program offered by Osmania University, Hyderabad, INDIA. Earned the distinction of being the only foreign military candidate of a project team located in Leh Ladakh that developed a Concept Model for a Waste Management System (WMS) for Indian Army Troops deployed in high altitude areas in the Tibetan range in sub-zero conditions as a partial fulfillment of the Masters Program. In the area of specialization Completed number of technical courses in ICT, Security & Sport Management.
Successfully completed the Australian Computer Society examination in year 1999. Completed the 20th Year in the Army and honored to be among the distinguished set of instructors who were invited to be present at the anniversary celebrations held at the Hiton Hotel, Colombo, also I was able to complete the Masters in Information Technology program offered by Charles Sturt University, Australia with a full time research project conducted in developing a Frequency Spectrum Management System using AI techniques for military applications in Sri Lanka. Served as the Colonel Commandant/Chief Signals Officer/Chief Innovations Officer/Commander Signal Brigade of the Sri Lanka Army and held several appointments as a member of the Communications Advisory Committees and pioneered establishing the Centre for Research and Development (CRD) at the Ministry of Defense (MoD), Sri Lanka and functioned as the Chief Controller. In 2009, immediately after operations were concluded to liberate North and East of Sri Lanka from terrorism. He also served as the Commander, Forward Maintenance Area (North). He was Promoted to the rank of of Major General back dated with effective from 28th February 2011 and then placed on retirement from service wef 16 August 2014 completing 34 (+) years in the Sri Lanka Army. He is awarded with (3 + 9), a total of twelve, gallantry awards & service medals.
Excelled in sports. Represented the School/Regiment/Army Colors Laureate in Cricket, Hockey, Chess and Table Tennis. Accomplished Table Tennis player served as a President/Secretary of Sri Lanka Army Table tennis Association and Vice President/Member EXCO in 2010/11 of Table Tennis Association of Sri Lanka and contributed our future athletes in sport as a Facilitator for Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) and Sport Administrators Course (SAC) - 2010 to 2013 conducted by Olympic Solidarity (OS) of International Olympic Committee (IOC) through National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOCSL). At present, Work as an up and coming entrepreneur and security management professional based locally and overseas. Co-founded STS - Sri Lanka in Oct 2014 and RPMAT - Sri Lanka in Dec 2018, at present work as the Executive Director and CEO respectively.
